Mona - The Block in Bangkok

THE NEIGHBORHOOD OF THE BLOCK

Although the Block is not too central and with a taxi about 10 minutes away from the university, if the traffic is not as horrible as usual, the neighborhood around it has a lot to offer. However, if you wanna go somewhere else, the next MRT station, Khlong Toei, is about 10 to 15 minutes away, but right in front of the residence are always motorbike taxis which you can take and usually every two of minutes a taxi drives right by the residence, so you never have to wait too long.
Yet, sometimes you're just too lazy and you rather wanna stay in the nearby area. Then, the main street, Soi Chuea Phloeng 4, is the best address for you, although it always depends what you wanna do, because activities are not offered as much as bars and restaurants. Below you find the locations, where our group of people are going to the most.

Directly in front of the residence are always different street kitchen, selling chicken, crepes, salads and fruits, thus you always have a cheap alternative to going to some restaurant. However, the following ones below are pretty cheap actually.

Looking for some Thai? Just walk about two minutes down the street and you already have two options, directly side by side. The left one, Kra-Phrao-Krop, can be very recommended, plus it has free WiFi!
Some minutes later and walking past various restaurants and a second 7/11, you'll find the restaurant Mamas on the left side. The owner, Mama, is so friendly and funny and the Pad Thai is famously awesome! They even offer massages and carry out a guesthouse additionally.

A couple of meters further you'll find the best place you can imagine, it already is our "Stammkneipe" (the pub we trust), "I Hate Pigeons". They offer lots of different beers from all over the world and even offer a beer flatmate, where you can drink as much beer as you like in 1 1/2 hours for 350 THB. Simply amazing! Our group goes there every Wednesday and is already famous on their Instagram account.

Directly on the other side of the road, you'll find another good restaurant which offers western as well as Thai food. The Schnitzel can be recommended!

You see, there is absolutely no chance that you will starve or die of thirst!

Besides restaurants and bars, there are also some hotels with Spas, of small local kiosk, where you can also buy alcohol, when 7/11 stops to do so. Also there is one restaurant down the street with a pool table which you can use.
Next to all those recommendations above, another one is the laundry shop "Neat & Clean". Since Thais, or rather, Thai washing machines don't wash with hot water, but only with cold ones, sometimes your clothes might still be dirty or stink. Then you should definitely go to that laundry, where it only costs 60 THB for 1 kg and your clothes will get washed with hot water and even dried afterwards. Thumbs up!

The owner of the Block even published a small list on their own website with "nearby attractions" in the neighborhood and you can ask the staff every time, where something is or what you can do around the Block, they will help you in every case!
